Sponge Bath

Summer is flying by and my ambitious plan to give Xena a bath seems to be in jeopardy. We’ve not had many warm days, and our time has been limited because I’ve been out of town a fair amount.

What We Did Today
2:00 to 3:25 p.m. = 85 minutes  Counting the Minutes

  • Grooming
I trimmed her mane a few weeks ago, but I was really disappointed with my handiwork. I borrowed Janis’ razor comb and after 15 minutes of fussing Xena’s mane has an evenly feathered edge. A little Cowboy Magic on her mane and tail, and she was simply gorgeous.
  • Bath Time
Using a bucket of warm water and the car wash mitt, I gave Xena a sponge bath in the barn aisle. The mitt was wrung out, but still wet enough that the clear water ran down her sides. Using approach and retreat she was able to cope quite well and I think she may even have enjoyed the cooling affect of the water.
  • In the Arena
We did a run-though of the seven games and played a weave pattern with 3 yoga balls. We began with the balls evenly spaced, then I moved one of the end balls closer to the middle ball, so that it was now a weave/squeeze game. Xena was very focused on the pattern and I was really happy with our progress. Xena always tries so hard to perform a task, even when she’s worried.
